DIY Coat Rack Revamp

Remember the Coat Rack from this post

Originally, I thought of using it in the toy room (painted yellow) to hang the boys' costumes and hats on...BUT then I found myself needing a rack or something to display my scarves on in a local salon, so I started brainstorming and this is what I came up with...

First, I removed the hooks and soaked then in combination of CLR and water {cause who knows what was on them last!!} and then gave the stand a good wash and scrub followed by a light sanding {I hate a long drawn out projects and knew that I wanted a distressed finish, so I wasn't really following any How To's on how to properly finish furniture {So if you have a really nice piece of furniture you want to refinish-please don't follow my instrutions!}

Next I painted the rack with two coats of white paint. While I waited for that to dry, I washed and rinsed the hooks and then I sprayed them with two coats of Black spray paint.

The next day, I gave the whole rack a light sanding to rough up the edges for a rustic and worn look.

And voila...here it is in action!!!

A pretty little stand to show off some of my accessories at Glow Hair Studio!!

Yummy, Melt in Your Mouth Homemade Biscuits

Fall is here, and you know what that means?! Super delicious casseroles and crock pot goodness that just beg for a good biscuit for dippin'...

You may be familiar with the Snowflake Scone, well, this is the same recipe but instead of a scone shape..were doing the traditional square biscuit...so I've called them...

INGREDIANTS

3 cups all purpose flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup granulated sugar
Pinch of salt
3/4 cup margarine
1 egg beaten in a 1 cup measure
Milk added to the egg to make 1 cup

Stir together the dry ingredients. Cut margarine into the dry ingredients. Add egg-milk mixture. Mix quickly and lightly, just until no dry ingredients remain.

Scrape onto lightly floured surface and knead gently 8-10 times. Pat out till 1" thickness, cut into squares. Place on greased cookie sheet {or stone pan} and bake at 425 F for 8-10 minutes. Serve warm.

These are absolutely delicious and I bet you can't stop at just one. I love mine with butter, but jam would be so good too. Add a touch of cinnamon if serving fro brunch too...yum, yum!

'Fall'ing in Love

IF the tree in our backyard is an indicator of anything...it is definitely saying IT IS FALL. Our tree is the first one to change color in our neighbourhood and the first one to lose it's leaves...

Tales of a Garage Sale'er'...

Today I am sharing my 'garage sale' experience with you all! Trying to score a bargain is something I definitely can appreciate. Even when I was a teenager, I can vividly remember skipping school to go hunt through bins at the nearest second hand store. Staying up late to get the first look at a rummage sale...And now spending Saturdays touring nearby towns to see what we can find in antique shops is so much fun!

Recently, my oldest son and I went on a little Saturday road trip...and here's what we saw on our adventures...

Our phone photo dump of our Saturday spent antiquing and garage sale hunting....
My husband could spend hours looking through old books...
I'm in love with these chairs, if I had extra money I would totally buy these and reupholster them!
I think it's always neat when I see someones wedding dress...
Aisles of stuff at our local antique market, supposedly the biggest one in Ontario, Canada.
Grayson's car that he bought for a quarter {his first purchase with HIS money!}
Some yard sales down the street from us.

Some things that landed in my car that day...

Funny story...2 years ago I was contemplating on this bright red coat rack at a flea market, it was only $10, but I couldn't figure out where to put it because we don't actually have a foyer and it was quite tall for the slanted ceilings in our 1.5 story house. So I sadly left it...THEN low and behold we are driving around and I spotted this on the side of the road!!! First, I never find cool stuff on the side of the road and second...in the car it went! It's a bit rough at the bottom, but a good scrub and paint will look marvelous!!

I was super stoked to find a box of old embroidery hoops, for only $1.00! I've been wanting to do a wall display in our bedroom and these will be perfect!

These frames were so adorable I couldn't pass them up, I will probably end up taking out the cute little prints in them though and replacing them with photographs...I am a sucker for frames and these two were $8.00...

I also found this little sign at the antique market, although probably not an antique, I just liked the colors and saying and it fit perfectly on my mantel!

So there you have it! My garage sale experience...

Look out for my Coat Rack Revamp coming soon!
