Loves on a Thursday-is it spring yet?

Not sure about you but I am definitely not loving that it's still winter...grrr. 

However I am loving...

I finally bought myself some over the weekend at a sweet little shop, if your in the area you should check it out {also check out some of their advertising-I know the girl who designs some of it, she's pretty great ;D{cough}...Anywho, now I just need to find a comfy neutral top like the one above to wear with them!

My new pants also inspired a recent Treasury I created on Etsy, Breath of Spring, dedicated to all things Seasfoam Green & Mint!

Sometimes when I'm pining I end up with a few pics in a row that just go with each other...like the two above-a match made in heaven! 

I'm also loving this pretty little necklace from Zakka Studio. Maybe I will need to buy it for myself for my birthday {which is tomorrow-shhh, don't tell anyone! }

Spring & Easter Mantel

If you follow me on Facebook, you'll know that I have been having a small case of 'bloggers block.' I've been working on a post, but just can't seem to find the right words to explain, so until then...you get some crafts. Cause it requires a little less words and a lot of pretty pics :)

So to begin, last week I posted some Easter inspired decor pics that included using black...which is how my Easter Mantel came to be!

The backdrop for my Easter Mantel was some fabric covered embroidery hoops, which have been in my closet forever-awaiting another project, but I scooped them up for this in the meantime. 

For the one, I used a plain cotton in a natural tone and stamped the word SPRING on it. The final touch was some pretty flower pins{that you can get with some of my scarfs in my shop. See?! you really can clip them onto anything!}

 I needed something else to balance out the black and white fabric so I used some scrapbooking in frames...

With the leftover paper I shredded it up to make some filler in the bottom of the glass vases, which provided the perfect contrast to the brightly colored eggs!

The final touch was the paper flowers, I knew immediately that I wanted black and white ones, which is kinda the total opposite of what spring stands for, but hey, it's fun and quirky, so I like it :) 

Overall I love how it turned out!!! It was a complete contrast to my Spring Mantel last year which was all pastels, however I still had to include the turquoise! 

So the trick to using black in such a colorful season dedicated to bunnies and eggs?  Use it sparingly. Make sure you balance it with white to brighten it up, and toss in your favorite color too :) I wish I had taken a pic of it from a distance, where you would see that on either side of my fireplace I have very dramatic black and white nature prints, which also help to pull it all together!

Loves on a Thursday-Black for Spring?

Hey! Tis' Thursday and you know what that means...come share what your loving this week!! I stumbled upon this first photo in my quest for some Easter/Spring Mantel inspiration...don't you love the use of black? Such an unexpected color choice for Spring...

...and yes I realize that Easter is a whole month away, but whatever,...we decorate 2 months before Christmas right?!

Of course this is kinda the total opposite of all those pretty spring colors...which is way I am going to use the black with lots of bright purples and greens and oranges...and toss in some paper flowers too :)

So maybe if your lucky, I can get my butt in gear and actually make this mantel idea come to life, maybe just maybe you'll get to see it next week?

Currently...

loving: that my 3.5 year old is embracing his artistic side. He's never been one for coloring and crafting, but lately he's been into lots of crafty goodness and is coloring and painting like mad! I'm also loving some new material that I bought to make pillows!

thinking about: what am I not thinking about?! Am I the only one who's mind can't settle for thinking about JUST ONE thing?! While writing this, I am making a mental list of what needs to get done today, groceries, clean the bathroom, laundry, finish painting...oh, and maybe get out of my pj's {I have been awake for over 2 hours afterall}

listening to: the new Tegan and Sara album-LOVE IT!

drinking: my morning coffee

reading: some blogs that I have been dying to catch up on, time seems to be far and few between lately

watching: nothing at the moment, but waiting to watch Walking Dead tonight-shhh-don't tell anyone that I watch it, haha! Never in a million years would I have watched something with zombies in it! My husband who is a horror freak is absolutely thrilled!

anticipating: SPRING!!! I'm so over winter, and desperately wanting Spring to arrive, along with all it's glorious colors!! I know it's only February, but a girl can dream right?!
