Loves on a Thursday-Nope, not Spring yet...

Good morning friends :)

 Unfortunately, my partner in crime for L.O.A.T, Colleen, is taking a break from LOAT this week due to some personal things. PLEASE, PLEASE send all your warm thoughts, hugs, and prayers her way to help her family through a tough time...

My loves are quick this week and mostly spring related, because well, it's spring and I am yet to see it out my window...

Fun with Photoshop- kinda cool for those of us that like to fool around with layers and effects in PS!

I'll take all of it please!

Kinda loving anything that would go under a jean jacket lately, like this dress, too bad it's a little outta my price range!

Yummy Coconut Rice

Awhile back I tried Coconut Rice for the first time, and let's just say I was smitten! It started with going to a Thai Restaurant, which if you know me well, I am not that adventurous with food {I'm a chicken fingers and fries kinda gal}so I was a little nervous. But once I found out that there was such a thing as Coconut Rice on the menu, I got a little excited.

So since then, I've been trying to master my own Coconut Rice. It took awhile and although it doesn't have that 'umph' that it did at the restaurant, it's still pretty decent and I have been making it quite regularly! I'm such a sucker for anything coconut!

Ingredients:

1 can of coconut milk {make sure to shake well before opening}
1 tbsp unrefined coconut oil
2 cups jasmine rice {soak rice prior to using according to package directions}
1 1/4 cup of water
1/2 cup shredded unsweetened coconut

Directions:
Rub coconut oil on the bottom and sides of a large pot. Make sure pot has a tight fitting lid as most of the cooking will occur through steam in pot. Pour in the remainder of ingredients and gently stir until mixed together. Cook on medium high heat, uncovered and stirring occasionally, until a low roaring boil starts. Turn heat down to low {as low as it can go}. Cover with lid. Leave for 15-20 minutes simmering on low. I always give it a little taste test to see how soft the rice is prior to serving. If you like it softer, remove from heat and let it sit covered in the pot a little longer.

Some people like to eat this as a dessert, allowing the rice to cool and serving with fruit. I like to eat it as part of a main course, like with a chicken stirfry!

One thing I want to try next time is reserving a bit of the coconut milk to pour on afterwards and then shred some lime on top!

Happy cooking!

DIY Egg Carton Flowers {Spring Craft for Kids}

Yes, Egg Carton Flowers-this one is an oldie but goodie! With two 4 year olds and two 2 year olds hanging off my legs on Friday morning, I knew a craft was in order! This was the perfect thing to brighten up a dreary  morning...

To make these you'll need...

Empty Egg Cartons
Paint
Paint Brushes
Newspaper or drop cloth {or not}
Pipe Cleaners
Scissors

What next?

Separate each individual egg holder from the egg carton by ripping along the seams. Trim off excess carton as you go along.

Let the painting begin!

Once dry, I made a small slit in the bottom of each egg holder/flower, and popped a pipe cleaner through, making a few twists and knots so that it wouldn't slip back through.

Sit back and admire your pretty bouquet of flowers!

 See? They even smell pretty, lol!

Have you and the kiddos made anything fun and messy lately?!

Happy Monday!

Loves on a Thursday-Shades of Purple

Yesterday was the first day of Spring, did you experience any signs of it? No? Not in Ontario either, other then some pretty sunshine, which I guess I shouldn't complain about...

Aside from complaining about the weather this week, I toured around Pinterest for what seemed like hours {yes, again}, failed to catch up my never ending blog list, unpacked everything from the Craft Show on Saturday and even got some new listings up in the shop. Everyone is still alive, dressed and feed, so life is good :)

In other news, I was looking back through my blog and noticed that my Blog-iversary is coming up! My very first post went live on April 22, 2010. You can read it here, if you like :) It's hard to believe that it's been 3 years almost...oh, how time flies. In celebration I'd love to get a massive giveaway together to thank all of you for reading. It's been a dogs age since I've given something away on this ole' blog, so if you would like to be involved or donate something, send me a message! I would super duper appreciate it!

Anyone else notice that my Loves on a Thursday posts seem to be for keeping you all up to date and for sharing lovely things. Hmm. Is that a good or bad thing?

Either way, on we go....

One of my new pieces in the shop was made out of a tie dye t-shirt in mauve's and plums {sorry, it's sold now!} and every since I put it together I've had the itch to dye something. I think a table cloth {like this one} will be my next project! Other things I'm loving this week...

1. Geometric Earrings {even though my ears aren't pierced}
2. Ombre Table Cloth
3. This dress under a denim jacket? = Sweet!
4. A purple table? Yes please!
5. It was hard to choice a color combination-but this one is oh so spring!
6. Adorable candles in eggs! Who would have thought?!

By far my favorite pin of the week...this room...never in a million years have I thought to paint our wrought iron bed frame {it's black-which even after 10 years, I still love it} BUT how pretty would it be if it were turquoise...mmmm...wheels are turning....

WW-Boys and their Toys

My house is usually scattered with dinky cars, mega blocks and construction toys, but on this fine day, the arrival of my niece brought out some new toys.

My old Barbie Dolls to be exact...

 They went over pretty well :)
